Synopsis

In August 1945 after victory over the Japanese occupation, Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong (Tang Guo Qiang), Chiang Kai Shek (Zhang Guo Li) and other leaders flew to Chongqing for peace talks. The purpose was to avoid civil war and discussed the basis of the formation of multi-party coalition government. Chiang disagreed with the agreement as he wanted to become a dictator himself.

Later Communist Party of China (CPC) began to oppose and resist acts of his dictatorship and took practical action to break the Kuomintang (KMT) rule. In May 1948, the CPC issued a "51 Declaration" to overthrow the KMT reactionaries and convened a new political consultative conference and the establishment of a democratic coalition. This coalition received a warm response from the democratic parties.

Since then the Communist Party kept a democratic united front against the KMT rule, and the party continued to develop and grow with large number of citizens experiencing great hardships and dangers from KMT-controlled areas. On September 21, 1949, the first plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened in Beijing. After nine days, The People's Republic of China was established on October 1, 1949 at Tiananmen Square.
